Mental Health and the Justice System in Durham County (2023)

2023

A team of students led by researchers Nicole Schramm-Sapyta, Ph.D. (Duke Institute for Brain Sciences) and Maria Tackett, Ph.D. (Department of Statistical Science) examined data from the Durham County Detention Facility and Duke Health System to analyze the effect of mental health interventions, state and local policies, insurance coverage, and other factors on the justice-involved population in Durham. The team built on prior work to build an interactive web site, develop scholarly publications, and provide analyses relevant to Durham county stakeholders. The data sets and analyses produced in Data+ provide a foundation for the team’s research in Bass Connections during the 2023-2024 academic year.
