Bridging Community Schools and Employment in Rural North Carolina

2026

This project examines how high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in North Carolina Community Schools connect with nearby community college certificate programs and local workforce needs, especially in rural counties. Using publicly available data from state education, workforce, and economic agencies, the study looks at whether students have clear, aligned pathways from high school through postsecondary training into in-demand jobs. The goal is to understand where strong connections exist—and where gaps remain—between community schools, community colleges, and local employers. Findings will help community schools, districts, and partners strengthen coordinated pathways that prepare students for stable, well-paying careers in their home communities.
