On Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 the Rhodes Information Initiative held an informal Chinese tea party in the Ahmadieh Atrium of Gross Hall to celebrate Chinese New Year. Graduate and post-doc students Wei Zhu, Cheng Cheng, Yingzhou Li and Shan Shan helped to organize the event and to share their knowledge of Chinese tea and calligraphy. Friends and participants in iiD sampled 5 varieties of high-quality Chinese teas as well as delicious traditional bean cakes and pound cake. Attendees also had the opportunity to try Chinese calligraphy with iiD’s “Paint a Pig” contest!
The tea party was a wonderful time for students, faculty, and staff to share a few moments together and to learn more about the ancient art of Chinese tea. “For over two thousand years, tea has connected the world through the Silk Road, by land and sea. Today, the aroma of tea not only brought me a sense of home, but also made me feel more connected to everyone at iiD,” says Shan Shan.
The event was such a success, iiD plans to do more events like these in the future. We wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!
