During two weeks in June, more than 35 staff, faculty, and graduate students attended the hands-on course **Generative June** on using AI Agents to program, perform data analysis, and produce interactive content. Taught by three computing professionals from Duke’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and organized by the Rhodes iiD, participants learned the ins and outs of agentic programming safely and effectively. The course included time for groups of participants to make a project together. The flaming hot projects included Monte Carlo Simulator Visualizer, a HIV Antibody Maturation Dashboard, a Paper dependency checker, a Tree Canopy Cooling Effects Mapper and Simulator, and a Scholars@Duke Department Profile Visualizer.
Along with Generative June, Rhodes iiD and OIT’s Co-Lab also cosponsored a multi-session workshop in June on using Agentic Programming to perform data analysis and produce data visualization dashboards. Participant projects ranged from an NIH funding market-share analysis and a global antibiotic use dashboard to Linux gaming compatibility research and an interactive Central Park squirrel census map. This was part of a larger effort by the OIT Colab to develop AI Accelerators in various directions.
